DRYER MAINTENANCE

Most homeowners probably don't give much thought to doing maintenance on their appliances; unfortunately, this can be a costly mistake. As a matter of fact, clothes dryer fires are more common than you might think. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) reports that dryers and washing machines cause an average of 15,970 fires each year, with dryers causing 92% of them and an average of $200 million in property damage. So, maintaining your dryer will not only make it last longer — it can also help you keep your household safe.

Here are a few tips to keep your dryer in top condition:

. Never overload your dryer with too many clothes,

  • Air won't circulate as well, and it will extend drying times.

  • Ensure your dryer is level. an unlevel dryer may cause unusual noises.

  • Clean and check the exhaust vent for lint and debris.

  • Make sure air is coming out of the dryer vent when the dryer is running.

  • Vents sometimes get crushed if dryer is in a limited space.

  • Clear out leaves and debris from the outside vent cap.

  • Make sure there are no bird nests, or other critters burrowing.

  • Empty the lint filter between every cycle.

  • Wipe down the drum and clean the interior to get rid of lint.

When Should You Hire a Professional?

Keep track of how long it takes your clothes to dry — you may need to hire a professional to fix your dryer and improve its performance. We highly recommend having one of our Appliance Service Specialists come out every couple of years and clean out all the lint build up from inside your dryer and lubricate those bearings as well!
